LAS VEGAS, NV – Unstoppable Domains, a crypto domain name and wallet address registrar, has announced they have teamed up with Blockchain.com in order to launch a “.blockchain” domain name system (DNS)-enabled Web3 domain, with plans to go on to commercialize the joint venture for profit.

A web3 domain name is a a decentralized, blockchain-based domain name that’s registered on a crypto network, like Ethereum or Algorand. Web3 domains are also known as non-fungible domains (NFTs) and can be connected to a Web3 wallet to send and receive digital assets.

The Unstoppable Domains and Blockchain.com partnership officially revealed via a public statement that they will be applying to register the .blockchain Web3 domain in 2025 with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), the U.S.-based global nonprofit organization responsible for overseeing IP addresses and the domain industry as a whole.

The new partnership will be based on the .blockchain Web3 domain, which will be submitted in time for ICANN’s hotly anticipated six-year registration program next year,” the statement said.

ICANN is slated to implement new generic top-level domains (gTLDs) by mid-2026, giving the Unstoppable Domains and Blockchain.com collaborative effort one full year to set up the infrastructure to support the new .blockchain domain and to make sure that their ICANN application is secure.

Blockchain.com currently has over 40 million verified users, and over the years have been responsible for supporting $1.2 trillion in cryptocurrency transactions and creating over 90 million crypto wallets.

Sandy Carter, Unstoppable Domains’ Chief Operating Officer, said in the joint statement that she was very excited about the partnership and looked forward to the anticipated great success that the adoption of Web3 would bring in the future.

We’re excited to partner with Blockchain.com to deliver users a low-cost digital identity solution that can enable a user-friendly crypto experience for the masses,” she said.

Our combined efforts underscore our dedication to a user-focused web,” agreed Blockchain.com President Lane Kasselman. “We eagerly anticipate our engagement with ICANN to materialize our shared vision.”

Once .blockchain is approved by ICANN, users will be able to register a domain for use with the Web2 ecosystem, as well as having the ability to acquire specialized domain names that reflect specific brands, companies, and users.
