Purpose-driven, bold, creative, adaptable – these are just some of the traits that GenZs embody and they strive to seek value in everything they do as they pursue their goals and aspirations in life. When it comes to work or looking for an organization, perks and fancy benefits are not all they are after, they desire flexibility, diversity, meaningful engagement, and opportunities that will help them grow and advance to make them feel accomplished.

According to a 2022 survey by Deloitte, GenZs are regularly stressed and anxious. In fact, over

46% of them feel burned out due to the intensity and demands of their working environments. Moreover, the survey reported that workplace well-being, mental health and achieving a work-life-balance are top priorities among GenZs and they aspire to be in an environment with supportive leaders that will provide trainings to hone their skills. Given this data, employers are not only challenged to attract and engage this digital-savvy workforce, they also need to constantly find ways to nurture them.

“The pandemic has changed the way we live and work, prompting us to innovate and pivot, ” shared Dang Lopez, Head of Sun Life Global Solutions HR and Communications. From implementing a flexible work-from-home arrangement to streamlining operations through digitization, Sun Life Global Solutions has prioritized employee engagement and overall well-being to better take care of its employees. As for Gen Zs, we recognize that they have unique needs and preferences. They look for purpose, they value continuous learning, and they connect through social media platforms. With all of these in mind, we know that we had to step up our talent acquisition efforts to engage them – moving beyond the traditional methods.”

Stepping into the virtual realm

As a company that aims to drive digital transformation and technology advancements in the country, Sun Life Global Solutions recently launched its campus hiring in Metaverse – a virtual world where people can build, own, and interact through an immersive experience utilizing virtual and augmented reality. This talent acquisition initiative is designed to provide an engaging, interactive, and seamless experience for GenZs all throughout their hiring journey – from the interviews to the onboarding. Through the platform, they can tour around the Metaverse of Sun Life Global Solutions, create their own avatars, interact and network with fellow candidates. They can also attend webinars and trainings on various topics such as UI/UX, Cloud Computing and Career Pathing that are meant to prepare and train them as they start their professional career.

“At Sun Life Global Solutions, we have this initiative called Graduate Associates where we hire fresh graduate tech students and have them go through a 6-months training program to further develop their skills and those who will pass the evaluation are automatically absorbed by the organization. With the addition of Metaverse, we will be able to provide a fun, immersive, and efficient way of recruitment and showcase Sun Life Global Solutions as a technology-driven company,” explained Dang.

Since its launch last May, Sun Life Global Solutions was able to hit beyond its target and garnered over 100 applicants and successfully shortlisted 23 candidates with 11 hires as of the moment. Through Metaverse, notable improvements were also observed compared to traditional recruitment which include faster turnaround time, higher quality candidates, reduced cost per hire, and an overall enhanced experience for both candidates and hiring teams.

The positive impact of the Metaverse on talent acquisition has been evident as the organization witnessed a decrease in onsite traditional job fairs, with a shift towards gamified recruitment processes. This includes the creation of interactive assessments and immersive scenarios that enable better evaluation and identification of top-notch candidates. Additionally, virtual onboarding and training have become key components of the HR strategy.

As part of its employee engagement and onboarding programs, Sun Life Global Solutions has already identified long-term plans and activities to ensure a seamless transition for new hires which include the implementation of rewards and recognition programs, interactive onboarding experiences, and virtual town hall meetings to foster a sense of connection and engagement within the organization.

The transformation brought about by the Metaverse has not only streamlined the talent acquisition process but has also enriched the overall recruitment experience. Sun Life Global Solutions is committed to leveraging the power of the Metaverse to attract top talent, cultivate a dynamic workforce, and continue delivering exceptional results in the long run.

“If there is one thing that is constant in this world, it is change. Everything around us is changing. Every minute, every second there are new innovations that are popping everywhere. And through time, we’ve learned that we always have to adapt to the changing needs of the workforce. Digital innovations are essential for us to stay relevant and competitive; it helps improve efficiency, and enhances employee experience, said Dang.

The campus hiring in Metaverse will roll out in various universities starting with Adamson University. For more information about Sun Life Global Solutions campus hiring and digital programs, https://www.sunlife.com/asc/en/.
