Felicita Gāga, a graduate of Design Academy Eindhoven, has transformed the quintessentially Gen Z practice of doomscrolling into a very GenZ digital creation, Threads of Influence. This innovative project centers on a digital dress composed of social media patterns that are simultaneously discomforting and captivating. This dress is apt for a metaverse or gaming launch, however the designer hasn’t given away immediate plans for the same. Utilising green-screen technology, Gāga has crafted a film featuring a woman in the digital attire, which continuously changes through a medley of visuals.
Gāga’s motivation was to fashion a wearable design that encapsulates the deluge of digital content she encounters daily. The dress initially showcases diverse traditional Latvian folk garments, gradually evolving into an amalgamation of YouTube DIY tutorials, music videos, television clips, memes, celebrity content, and much more resulting in a visually eclectic experience.
Explaining her concept, the designer stated she aimed to weave her research into a narrative, one that resonates with her encounters with digital content scrolling. Her intention was to craft a contemporary folklore tale that strikes a chord with present-day individuals, particularly those immersed in social media.
The designer manually assembled the dress’s visuals by stitching together images and clips, but she envisions the possibility of generating the design automatically from a live feed. In the rapidly expanding realm of digital fashion, complete with its own fashion week, she believes her creation could find a home in a video game or metaverse setting.
Gāga enthused that her dress can be worn at metaverse parties. She concludes playfully saying, “If Mark Zuckerberg were to extend an invitation for a metaverse meeting, you can bet I’d proudly sport this dress.”
