NHN, a South Korean tech firm, has announced that it is developing crypto games and will be utilizing the Sui blockchain. NHN’s gaming division is known for developing social casino games and mobile titles. The company plans to create digital board games that leverage non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
While NHN has not yet specified how it will incorporate NFTs or crypto tokens into its upcoming games, the company is exploring the possibility of allowing gamers to send items to each other as NFTs and potentially offering crypto token rewards.
The Head of Business Development at NHN, Jine Lee, stated that crypto-powered games are a “paradigm shift” for the gaming industry. Lee emphasized that the company aims to combine the value created by game content and the in-game economy with the concept of tokenomics.
NHN has chosen to work with Sui for its NFT and crypto games due to the blockchain’s layer-1 capabilities. Mysten Labs, the main developer behind Sui, understood NHN’s long-term vision for crypto gaming and expressed excitement about building with them.
South Korean gaming firms, such as Krafton, Com2us, Wemade, Nexon, Neowiz, NCSoft, and OneUniverse, have already embraced blockchain gaming. According to a study by DappRadar and Pacific Meta, Asia is expected to make up 80% of the crypto gaming player base in the future.
Overall, NHN’s foray into crypto games signifies the continued growth of blockchain gaming in South Korea and the broader Asian market.
