Social media is probably the most popular technological advancement of the 21st century. It has become an essential part of our lives, allowing us to connect with people from all around the world while also keeping us updated with the latest news and trends. With the rise of platforms such as TikTok and Threads, it’s clear that social media is here to stay and will continue to impact our lives in ways we can’t even imagine.
At the recent Philippine Blockchain Week 2023, CoinGeek Backstage’s Claire Celdran caught up with Gwyneth Manalo, a 16-year-old leading Gwennovation. CoinGeek Backstage also had a brief interview with Young Kun Kim, the creator and CEO of 3K Group.
Blockchain gaming on the BSV blockchain
Utilizing the popularity of social media, Manalo created Gwennovation—a social media page she uses to educate the mainstream audience about blockchain gaming in the BSV blockchain ecosystem.
Manalo’s journey with blockchain is a pretty familiar one, as the young CEO, gamer, and content creator was introduced to the technology during the pandemic.
“I started when the pandemic hit, then my uncle introduced me to BSV blockchain,” she shared.
As a gamer, it was easy for Manalo to delve into blockchain gaming. Some of her favorites are Haste Arcade’s games and CoOM Battles. When asked why she pursued gaming in the BSV blockchain, Manalo says that the greatest factor affecting that decision was “micropayments.”
“We get used to spending a lot of money on games,” she claimed. Unlike in other blockchain networks—where users tend to spend a lot of money due to high gas fees—Manalo argued that spending in the BSV blockchain games requires less capital and hassle because it enables micropayments.
Aside from being a player, Manalo helps enthusiasts and beginners in the space learn more about gaming in the BSV blockchain, and she teaches the fundamentals of the technology through her TikTok and other social media pages.
“My favorite thing about the BSV blockchain is [how it incorporates] micropayments,” she said.
How blockchain tech can help the Philippines’ election
Meanwhile, Kim talked about their latest app, Block Vote, an electronic voting system that uses blockchain. This app, which Kim has presented at the PBW 2023 stage and separately before the Senate of the Philippines and Commission on Elections (COMELEC), aims to lessen the distrust and enables transparent election proceedings because of blockchain technology.
“Block Vote is an electronic voting system using blockchain,” Kim explained. “[Due to] a lot of hacking in many kinds of elections…there is a lot of distrust in the election system. We were worried about this kind of situation, so we decided to develop a system [that] people can trust [and] where elections can be more transparent.”
With Block Vote, all the voting processes will be done in the blockchain, eliminating the usual tampering or forging of information in the traditional method. If their app is acknowledged by the Philippines’ COMELEC and national government, the country would be the first in Southeast Asia to adopt blockchain for voting procedures.
